Tutoring

I am a former university professor, ghostwriter, and award-winning author who also loves working with college applicants to create, customize, and polish their application essays.

My Approach

I meet you where you are, whether that's helping you choose an essay prompt, turning a life experience into a narrative, or polishing a rough draft into an authentic gem of an essay. If you're just starting out, we'll spend the first session selecting a prompt and choosing a life experience that addresses the question while showcasing one or two of your best traits.

Next, we'll work on an outline that will allow you to break the essay into manageable bits. Then we'll spend however long it takes to draft, edit, and polish your essay. Using online tools like Google Docs, I offer detailed feedback and provide plenty of examples to help you produce your best work. The writing process can feel overwhelming, but I'll help you organize your thoughts so you can put them on the page with confidence.

About Me

As a highly rated former professor at UT-Austin and Texas State University, I have more than two decades of classroom experience teaching writing-intensive courses and developmental English. I am also a skilled communicator dedicated to engaging with a variety of learning styles and to developing students' critical thinking skills. I continue to guest lecture at schools like the University of Notre Dame, UCLA, and Texas A&M. I am also an award-winning nonfiction author with extensive research and interviewing expertise.

As a professor, I worked closely with my students on their papers and essays. Now as a ghostwriter and coach, I use many of these same skills when I collaborate with individuals to write and edit their own books, essays, and projects. I'm fascinated by other people's stories and love the challenge of capturing everyone's distinct voice on the page. This expertise has become even more valuable as college admissions officers seek authenticity and originality in the age of AI.
